n production, codes are not always perfect. They can be blurred by motion, damaged during handling, printed with low contrast, placed on difficult surfaces, or combined with text information that still needs to be read reliably. And when a code or serial number cannot be detected correctly, the problem quickly becomes bigger than a single failed read: traceability is interrupted, manual checks increase, production slows down, and quality data becomes incomplete.

The focus will be on practical challenges that many manufacturers know well: Data Matrix codes on moving products, hard-to-read labels, varying print quality, changing lighting conditions, and OCR information such as serial numbers, batch numbers, expiry dates, or product IDs. We will explain where classic reading methods can reach their limits — and how AI-based image processing can help improve reliability and flexibility.
